Royal Mail privatisation: Bosses are quids in after amassing nearly £350,000 of shares

Figures show directors and senior managers at the Royal Mail, including chief executive Moya Greene, are benefiting thanks to a surge in the share price

Top bosses at Royal Mail have amassed nearly £350,000 worth of shares in the privatised postal giant.

Figures show directors and senior managers at the postal firm are quids in thanks to a surge in the share price.

Royal Mail chief exectutive Moya Greene is among those sitting on a tidy profit, with more than £17,300 worth of shares.

All Royal Mail employees received free shares in the company as part of the controversial privatisation.

However, they were also given priority to buy up to £10,000 worth of shares using their own money.

That is despite small investors being prevented from buying more than £750 worth.

Records show big bosses used this entitlement to snap-up shares in the business.

Eleven directors have between them more than 35,000 shares in the firm, a combination of those they were given or bought.

Those shares started off being worth around £115,500. However, because of the surge in the share price, they are now worth more than £168,000.

The shares they were given for free cannot be sold for three years.

Moya Greene has 3,643 shares in the company, records show. They started off being worth just over £12,000 but were worth £17,300 at yesterday’s closing price - a healthy £5,300 paper profit.

Ms Greene’s basic salary is £498,000, but other benefits mean her total package is around £1.1m.

However, she has agreed to return £120,000 paid towards the cost of buying a house after Business Secretary Vince Cable objected to the payment.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Yes , in a nutshell .

Trashy sensationalist reporting. Moria Green's holding is virtually the same as my own and I'm just a OPG

As pointed out, £17,000 in shares is irrelevant when compared to a £1.6m a year salary.
And, no doubt, Moya is already sitting on a sizeable personal fortune anyway.
