The 368 staff who refused their free shares, could instead have kept them for 5 years, then sold them and passed the proceeds to a charity of their choice. Even if the share price has not risen above this level at the end of 5 years, charities could have benefited to the tune of £1,117,601.28 :shock:

Or better still the Govt could have allocated the unclaimed shares to charity but are probably more likely to add them to Moya's annual bonus.

Its still only the preliminary trading at the moment though, don't think shares can actually be traded properly yet. Is the vote result being announced today ? could make huge bearing on the initial trade price, which at the moment is very high from where it started. I would personally love it if the initial price on trading was low and prevented all those looking for a quick buck were forced to hold on to their stock for longer than they wanted.

We are getting 10% of the total holding so as far as I'm aware the price is irrelevant

The initial market value of the 10 per cent. stake in Royal Mail which is being made available free to eligible employees will be based on the closing mid-price at the end of the trading day on 15 October 2013

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The initial market value is irrelevant to anybody holding free shares.
The number of shares issued to employees has to be 10% of the entire holding.
That means 100 million shares split between employees (pro rata of course).
The only relevant market value will be the value on the day you sell them and that's at least 3 years away.
