Postal workers plan picket

POSTAL workers say they will picket the offices of local Tory MPs to show their fury over the privatisation of the Royal Mail.

The Communication Workers Union (CWU) announced their protests at the constituency offices of Conservative MPs Gary Streeter and Oliver Colvile will take place in the near future to force the MPs to explain their support for privatisation.

Chris Webb, CWU divisional representative Chris Webb said "We met with Oliver Colvile in Parliament recently and he made not one single convincing argument for the privatisation. Gary Streeter has gone further by refusing to meet us. This isn't about party politics – this is about two individuals who feel that they can make decisions without consulting their constituents or postal workers. Oliver Colvile and Gary Streeter must be held to the account of the people that elect them not the party they represent"

The union claims the picket protest is just the beginning of a "sustained campaign" of the two MPs. Both MPs been invited to address a mass meeting of postal workers on September 29.


The union has also announced it will hold a national postal workers strike ballot – the first since 2009 – with a vote deadline of October 16.
