next year Scotland are having a vote about its future,
if we vote for independance, which is not unlikely.
what happens to royal mail in Scotland,if we are privatised?.
i dont know if the Yes campaign have expressed an opinion on this or not.
but it is almost certain that an independent Scotland would re-nationalise the royal mail
would share-holders be compensated or not
and should we be being privatised before this referendum

If an independent Scotland wanted to renationalise Royal Mail, they'd probably have to set up a new company, if Scotland do become independent then probably anything posted from Scotland to the remaining parts of the UK would probably have to go through customs

Re: independant scotland
It would be irrelevant as by then RM (if its still called that) would just be another private company operating a delivery service like that of TNT/DHL/UKmail. The SNP have two options leave it alone or set up a new postal delivery service. legally the RM doesn't belong to the Scottish Government, it belongs to the UK Government.

no your wrong.RM belongs to the people.if SNP were to declare their intentions now.that would put pressure on anyone thinking of buying shares

If it was still public it would go into the joint asset pot along with the joint liabilities to be divvied up come Independance Day.NWpostie wrote:It would be irrelevant as by then RM (if its still called that) would just be another private company operating a delivery service like that of TNT/DHL/UKmail. As that's unlikely to be the case it's a moot point.
What will need to be sorted out is the USO because it's enshrined in UK law but not specifically Scots law.
Customs may also be an issue until some kind of closure on EU membership is reached

That smug greasy little barrel of hypocracy aka Salmond is too sly to even bother getting involved in anything to do with postal services. He's knows whatever the outcome of devolution or RM privatisation, prices will go up, and he won't want to be tainted by that, especially at the very time when his various policies and predictions will start to come unravelled and/or prove to be pie-in-the-sky.
Far better (for him) to keep quiet and blame it on "Wezzminsturrrr", just as he has done for everything else in his less-than-distinguished career...
