so what happens to our rights after 3 years?
Hi all. So we're about to get these shares. So before I accept them I want to know... Does anyone know what happens to our rights after 3 years? Will the growth and infrastructure act apply to us then?
If it will I'm refusing the shares.
Best regards VM.

Re: so what happens to our rights after 3 years?
as far as i am aware, we only get the shares when then Government has sold 100% of the company.... at the moment the plan is to only sell a 'majority' stake in the company.... ie anything from 51% to 99%? .....
so it may be several years before we see our £2000 worth ..... or may never recieve them if the Government decides to hang on to part of the company itself!!

Re: so what happens to our rights after 3 years?
We will get 10% shares whether or not the government sells 100% ... we will just have to wait before we can cash them in ... probably around 3 years ... this is to prevent a situation in the initial months of flotation where 150,000 x £2,000 all getting cashed in at the same time a company floats would give an untrue reflection of the share value and create instability ... besides should we come to some agreement or privatisation is forced through succesfully then it might not be such a bad thing being forced to keep hold of our shares for a little while as if all these investor companies and the tories crony mates all think they are going to make more money then we may as well get our slice

I've seen this question a few times now. It implies that there is some sort of link between the shares and the proposed 3 year protection of terms and conditions. There isn't. Accepting the shares doesn't mean you are accepting the offer of the 3 year protection or any of the other things that are being discussed. The growth and infrastructure act will not apply to the shares offer now or in the future. Accepting the shares doesn't commit you to anything. I can't see any reason to refuse them unless you object to them as a matter of principle.Visionary Man wrote:Hi all. So we're about to get these shares. So before I accept them I want to know... Or if you see them as a bribe (which they are) or blood money (which it will be).Brain Fury wrote:I've seen this question a few times now. Well that would be refusing them on principle wouldn't it. Accepting the shares does not confer any obligations or agreements which is what appears to be some people's concern.UnhappyGremlin wrote:Or if you see them as a bribe (which they are) or blood money (which it will be).Brain Fury wrote:I've seen this question a few times now. Whilst there is no DIRECT attachments regarding rights at work in relation to shares, as someone else pointed out (I think on another thread), there is nothing to stop this becoming another angle in the B&H culture in the company.
If you don't do as instructed, they could threaten disciplinary action, up to and including dismissal, where by you'd lose the shares.

It all seems so cloak and dagger and not in the best interest of rm the public or majority of staff. I'm just gonna refuse them on principle and to cover my back on the rights. I have zero confidence in the board and their motives.

All shares refused on prinicpal, or forfeited due to dismisal/resignation without three years will be re-allocated to qualifying staff after three years.

Where does it say that?DavidUK wrote:Visionary Man wrote:It all seems so cloak and dagger and not in the best interest of rm the public or majority of staff. I'm just gonna refuse them on principle and to cover my back on the rights. I have zero confidence in the board and their motives.

On RM(P)TV today, it stated the shares would be issued to staff at the time of the IPO flotation.
Therefore, everybody would already have their allocation. What business sense does it make to divide them up between the remaining staff?
