I can’t understand why Dave or Billy hasn’t pointed out the loss of earnings to the Exchequer this privatisation will bring.
£200million profits per year, gone directly in dividends to the shareholders.
The Corporate tax Royal Mail pay (hopefully it’s currently paid properly), which no privately owned business pays correctly. They’d rather pay accountants to avoid as much tax as possible.
130,000 staff paying tax and national insurance, claiming little or no state benefits, 30,000 could lose these jobs stopping their tax and NI and increase their benefit claims.
What will the total loss per year after privatisation be to the taxpayers? As they will have to make up the difference.
Maybe too late now, but it's worth asking at the Labour Party Conference, when Billy gets up to put forward his motion.
