Don't be so defeatist , the only new thing announced by Royal Mail and the Government yesterday was a guaranteed dividend. There was still no date announced for the prospectus which legally has to go put prior to any sell. Petsonally I thin part of the company will be sold.

However this fight is not just about Politcal ideology it is about getting an agreement which is legally binding and enforceable which stops the effects of privatisation. Things like outsourcing of work which can be done cheaper. The franchising of delivery and collection routes , a 2 tier workforce and. Changes to our terms and national agreements.

To many people are making excuses , this fight is about what kind of conditions you want to work in the future regardless of who owns the company.

i agree dingo.we must stick together.the more united we are,the better deal we can get,even if we are privatised.look at our managers who are getting no deal.thats because RM know they are spineless and will accept anything.the bigger fuss we make .the more uncomfortable we make it.the best chance we have.resistance is not futile.

That message is NOT getting through to the vast majority of the members, most think that it's a done deal.

Even Dingo's comments seem to indicate that its more about a deal on T&C's than the line in the sand that is Privatisation.

To me, privatisation is the first domino in a line that will lead to our T&C's being whittle'd down to the lowest that the law will allow.

And that Domino will be pushed over in the next few weeks.......

I think the CWU believed that the consultative ballot and it's results would influence things but whilst there may have been some minor lip service from the Govt and Senior RM management both have continued with their own agenda ignoring the wishes of employees/customers/general public. This is arrogance born of nearly always getting what you want and whilst the CWU haven't exactly rolled over to have their tummies tickled they have been out manoeuvred on an issue that is the single largest threat to OPGs (and managers) in my lifetime.

It is no good looking back at the mistakes of the last few months but looking forward to the next few weeks and as privatisation gathers pace so CWU action must gather pace faster. IA will take time to ballot and schedule but there are many actions that could begin next Monday that do not constitute IA and would not cost a penny in take home pay (Ex ED).

For those considering voting no in the Industrial Action ballot because they believe the CWU have let us down by all means carry on but what you will effectively be doing is voting to let HQ off the hook.

A rejection of IA means that no matter how the negotiations turn out HQ can simply turn around and blame the membership.

A legally binding agreement of say 5 years plus is not exactly compatible with giving investors the return they want? So stopping privatisation and stopping the effects of privatisation mean the same thing for this government and to me its the same thing we are fighting.I

A few lads at work today have said that it is a done deal so we may as well just accept it.
Told them it isn't. But their view is that they're not willing to lose money for nothing, which is how they view the last round of strikes and the 'deal' we got from it.
Told them it isn't about the short term, it's long term. Pay, jobs, etc. etc., but all they could say is there is no evidence to say any of that will happen.
I pointed out the history of other privatised companies as an indication of what we could expect, no effect.
Told them they'd be the first crying in 5 years when they're on s**t contracts and probably minimum wage, they asked if I thought that would be what will happen in 5 years.
Said no, probably come after T&C's/pay etc. within 2 years.
Asked me for evidence, said there isn't any, but there will be when it's too late.

Must say, the news in all its forms does appear to have presented the proposed flotation as a done deal, so i's no wonder people are thinking they'll just make the best of it and get what they can.
It's time the CWU started a MASSIVE campaign now. Too much longer and it will be too late, some think it is already.
