Unions could force Labour to renationalise Royal Mail

Delegates are to get vote on whether to force party to renationalise Royal Mail after 2015 general election.

Dave Ward, the CWU deputy general secretary postal, told the Trades Union Congress the union is tabling a renationalisation motion at the Labour conference.

The news comes as the Government is reported to be preparing to set out the timetable for the £3bn flotation of Royal Mail in the next few days.

“What about Labour – Ed Miliband is going to tell us we need a new relationship," Mr Ward said. "I have been to sorting offices up and down the country. They are asking when are you going to get off your backside and stand up for public service workers like Royal Mail.
“We have got a Labour conference in a couple of weeks and we will put a motion down that calls upon Labour to renationalise this industry if they get back in power.

“Privatisation is not in the interests of the public of this country, not in the interests of business and certainly not in the interests of the workforce. We say no Royal Mail for sale”.

TUC delegates voted unanimously in favour of a motion to support a Save Our Royal Mail campaign and which ordered the TUC to back it.

whats the problem then with big dave and billy take what the s**t houses running the company are offering us , then in the next election vote labour and back to the public ownership. the cwu seem to be way behind r/m and the gov at the moment it seems as though there a bit weary about the outcome of the I/a ballot , I think.

The problem for me (apparently it upsets people if I make a strong comment) its the no strike deal (till christmas) if its accepted once it will be accepted again and we lose all our power.

The bonus being based on no strikes for the same reasons plus the unfairness of it.

The so called industrial stability deal we have to sign up to even though no details have been released to the Union.

The Pension changes which mean IIRC that the longest serving people will receive the bigger hit on the value of their pensions at retirement.

If you can accept them thats okay Vote YES at the ballot, I am voting no because they are not acceptable to ME.

I will be voting YES in the ballot for strike action and I will also be voting YES in 2014 and hopefully the postal service in Scotland will be re nationalised .... because waiting for a Labour government under Blue Ed to renationalise the postal service you would be as well as p!ssing into the wind

Indeed it does help that the back benchers stalled it, who knows if Labour had won the last election, would they have tried it again ? Who knows ? We would be going into counterfactual conjecture.
