Hyndburn MP hits-out over 'unnecessary' plans to privatise Royal Mail

GRAHAM Jones has continued his attack on government’s policies.

The Hyndburn MP said the government was pushing ahead with plans to privatise the Royal Mail, ‘despite the fact it made a £403 million profit last year’.

Mr Jones’ comments came less than a week after he said ‘job insecurity and low pay are becoming a way of life for more and more people’ under the Conservative-led government.

Calling the Royal Mail move an ‘unnecessary step not in the long term interests of anyone’, Mr Jones said it would lead to a poorer service aimed at making money for shareholders instead of serving the British public. He added: “We all rely on a daily delivery service but places where it is expensive or complicated to deliver the post every day could be made vulnerable.

“Many of us might also find ourselves having to travel miles to pick up our large parcels as a privatised Royal Mail could choose to sell off its assets such as nearby delivery offices and local post offices.”

Mr Jones called on his constituents to support his calls for the government to rethink its position and said: “The British public should not lose an important asset, especially at a time when it is making a good return on taxpayers’ investment.”

So I take it he'll be voting against it then?
Sometimes, I wish I wasn't a Rep.
