We understand colleagues are concerned about how any sale of Royal Mail might impact on their terms and conditions. This is why we have already agreed a number of protections with the CWU and have proposed other protections as part of our closed offer to the CWU.

We have already reached agreement on:

A commitment to have a predominantly full-time workforce and improved opportunities for part-time employees who wish to work full-time.

The extension of enhanced voluntary redundancy terms during the current modernisation of Royal Mail.

A new agreement

As we’ve said before, we’ve been talking to the CWU about what a new agreement looks like. We have put forward in writing, on a closed offer basis, to the CWU leadership, a new agreement covering a three-year pay deal, protection around our pension scheme, and important safeguards relating to terms and conditions if Royal Mail is sold.

We will update you about this as soon as we can.

If RM want to convince the staff that the offer is a good one , then would it not have been better to present it unsealed?

And RM don't have the best of track records in recent times of sticking with the agreements they make, do they?
Simple thing is, we don't trust them. And it's entirely their own fault.
Even though they have just been given a loud and clear message via the consultative ballot, they're still not listening, and they don't understand our feelings on the company and its intended direction.

Unfortunately a lot of us don't trust our union leaders after the way we got been burnt and lost monies from previous bouts of industrial action to stop us getting into the mess we are now in. RM were on the ropes dying during the BT2010 negotiations. Billy and Co went soft and deliveries have paid a heavy price since with excessive workloads even though reps on the shop floor were telling Billy and Co that the proposed deliveries would break the front line staff in the long run and were unachievable. 3 years into P&L and staff/offices are on their knees with exhaustion.

All this sabre rattling is like closing the stable door after the horse has bolted.

I agree. But not fighting and not supporting the union just isn't an option to me. I think they have come to the realisation that this fight is THE fight, and we need to win, we may not get all we want, but it would be a better result than what we'd get by not fighting.
