PRIVATISATION AND A CAREER BREAK

I am looking to leave the royal mail next year at some point but do not wish to leave without getting some recompense.
I am hoping that redundancy offers may be eventually offered to those like me who want to go or who do not want a contract for less wages.
I am wondering where i stood if i bought myself some time by taking a career break for a year?
If on a break would i still have my rights protected or could the r.m just make me redundant without paying me off?
Also whilst on a break would i still be protected by the union or would i still have to subscribe and pay my fees.
For me a private investor rather than a float would be the prefered option .
I would like some opinions please?

I can understand why you wish to leave Royal Mail and you may think that privatisation is inevitable but at this moment in time we need solidarity in the union to at least not roll over and die without a fight, so only thinking of yourself and what you can get and wishing for this or that type of privatisation and saying 'I wont strike' in another thread is gonna go down like a lead balloon.As for taking a career break and hoping the union will protect you without paying union fees -its all a bit me me me.

No one knows what happening with Royal Mail these days let alone 12 months. I would just carry on working for another year and get the bonus *, privatisation bonus * and hopefully a nice pay off and put money in the bank. So you can leave say in October 2014 (Just an example) to take your career break or leave with EVR or get a new job. The job might improve when there is privatisation as our next employers might know what they are doing but again that is a big IF. You can think about doing a college evening class to learn a new trade if you have the time and energy to do it.

Surely there will be little change for quite a while, no compulsory redundancies, just a gradual erosion of pay and conditions.

You bet,i am thinking of myself,the union will put up the expected fight against privatisation but in my view it will make no differance.
For me the moment the goverment took over the pension deficit it became a question of when rather than if.
Its a pretty transparent script really isnt it we always knew that the red bank balance sheet would suddely turns itself around to all of a sudden become a business that has made 404 million in profits,and of course,its invariably down to the sterling work that Moya Greene has done.
The goverment knows that the strike action and protesting will need to be another stage to go through that is all part of the expected process.
Why shouldnt it be me me me? I have wanted some answers to which you have offered me none

Privatisation is going to happen and in my opinion its too big a battle for the union to win.
The union can fight our corner with some measure of success in subjects like t and c and wages but that is it it also needs to have a strong union work force that is not easily bought off for a few quid,as has happened before.
Privatisation can only be beaten if Labour declared that if elected it would keep royal mail public.

When i last went out on strike i was striking against mainly my hours of work (i was part time) and had another job i did after my delivery,this was a waste of time for me as not only did i lose income but also a second job too. A lot of people i know of who striked in the last dispute would not bother again as the consensus of opinion was that we were easily bought off.If your going to go out on strike you need to see it through to the bitter end and not be fobbed off as our members were.The union is only as strong as its members and unfortunatly its members throw in the towel all too easily.

When i went out on strike i was in the union and was prepared to strike in order to get what we wanted and make real efforts to keep hold of the current t and c s. I would have been in it for the long haul.
I withdrew from the union as i fealt it to have been a waste of time and money.I am not currently in the union.
I recently considered rejoining to have back up to stop bullying and harrasment by management and to give them a taste of their own medicine as this will be an ever growing problem.

For the sake of posties who are raising families and plan to be in the business until retirement age i really hope the business is not destroyed by being privatised but as the goverment has taken over the pension deficit im afraid its inevitable. Labour is the only chance of remaining public thats going to be the best avenue of attack but they are just as bad and are funded by the c.w.u as well.Seems to me that we are all doomed.
