"We are with you against privatisation", says Miliband

CWU today (Friday) received a strong show of support from Labour Party leader, Ed Miliband at the Labour Party's Policy Forum in Nottingham.
Taking policy suggestions and questions from the floor, Paul Murfin, a Royal Mail driver from the CWU Nottingham and District amal branch, asked the Labour leader: "Why, when the Labour Party was in government and the rest of Europe were protecting their postal services, did the Labour Party set about systematically destroying Royal Mail?"
Continuing, Paul explained the current sentiments amongst postal workers saying: "We are about to enter the fight of our lives. We are asking the Labour Party to support and back us."
Ed Miliband responded with a positive message of support, saying: "We are with you against the wholesale privatisation of the Royal Mail that is being undertaken. It is the wrong thing for Royal Mail in my view and is why we voted against it in parliament."
He continued by explaining the Labour Party's actions on Royal Mail when they were in power saying: "We made a proposal for selling off 30 per cent of the Royal Mail; that was because we thought there needed to be more investment in the Royal Mail and we were worried that government couldn't do it. But I know also about the worries there are about competition, for example, and the way that there is a strong feeling that Royal Mail has been subjected to competitive pressures that other postal services in Europe have not been subjected to.
The Labour leader said that he understood the sentiments of postal workers and how "the people working in Royal Mail often felt like the odds were stacked against them." Highlighting his concerns over unfair competition levelled at Royal Mail, Ed Miliband finished by telling Paul: "We are with you in this fight against Royal Mail privatisation taking place."
CWU general secretary Billy Hayes commented: "It's good to have backing for our Keep the Post Public campaign from the top of the Labour Party. Ed Miliband has given strong backing for UK postal services in Nottingham today and that is very welcome."

Shameless, the lot of them,
How Milliband,or any Liebour MP, for that matter can come out and play the we are right with you card is a f..king disgrace.
They are the ones that allowed that cretin Crazier, to sign up to the DSA disaster. And they are the ones that have enhanced
the anti union laws.
They have sold us down the river, and for them to try to cozy up now makes me puke.
Tories in cheap suits, that's all they are.

I almost vomited when I read Miliband's weasel words.
Labour are the fookers who opened the Tory door to privatisation. Do they think we will ever forget the utter contempt in which Labour held postal workers? Identical to the utter contempt in which postal workers are held by the CONservatives, and the Limp Doms.

as a postman who had voted labour for 40 years,to read miliband's pathetic words was shocking.
its like dont blame us but they were in power at the time, what other industry would allow rivals to come in and cherry pick what they want with goverment approval.

They all say different things at different times and they all do the same thing all of the time
I thought the concept of democracy contained an implicit suggestion of CHOICE?

Weasel Words:
On 26 Match 2011 - Milliband was "against the wholesale privatisation of the Royal Mail" but that does not rule out part privatisation does it - very careful with their words these politicos..

There all the same slimey turn coats tell you the trade union what you want to hear, then go back on their words, but what I would like to say enough is enough NO more EVR,S We need to protect full time jobs, staff all vacant duties, with vacant duty resigns, slow down and do the job properly. protect full time jobs..before your part time.. ANYBODY WHO IS MOVING OR CLOSING NEEDS TO DO NEW RESIGNS ONCE THEY HAVE MOVED AND NOT BEFORE,ONCE GONE NEVER TO RETURN.. PULL OUT OF ALL AGREEMENTS, STOP ON THE REMODELLING OF NEW M/CS until the colleague shares have been paid to all in FULL. STOP ALL REVISIONS NOW..... SHOW SOME BOLLOX HAYES & WARD.

The UK is contrary to common observation actually a muti-ideology multi-party state......irrespective of party colour, it's right of centre capitalist for 4 years, 11months, and left of centre socialist for one month ( shame that month is the month after an election is called,
)
I don't suppose your mouth bleeds every 28 days, does it?

Is this one of those "an enemy of my enemy is my friend" speeches David?DavidUK wrote:I have never voted Labour and never will, so it is wonderful news that you fellas can see Ed Milliband for the political opportunist and lightweight that he is.
All politicians are political opportunists....it's in the job description.
Just because we can see through one chancer doesn't mean we are about to jump into bed with another.
How is the Royal Mail Pro-Privatisation Campaign going anyway?
