“The SNP is scaremongering as usual. The Hooper review makes it clear that Royal Mail is in dire straits and we need to sort it out. If we sat back and did nothing, as the SNP would clearly prefer, the vital services Royal Mail provide would disintegrate."

Commenting on the SNP attack on Business Secretary Vince Cable over the future of the Royal Mail, Liberal Democrat MP Malcolm Bruce said:

“The SNP is scaremongering as usual. The Hooper review makes it clear that Royal Mail is in dire straits and we need to sort it out.

“If we sat back and did nothing, as the SNP would clearly prefer, the vital services Royal Mail provide would disintegrate.

“Our plans offer employees shares in their own company, a stake in the future of Royal Mail, which is a long-held Liberal Democrat policy.

“The SNP is deliberately mixing up steps to rescue Royal Mail with the future of Post Offices. This is unbelievably irresponsible.

“Vince Cable is taking the necessary steps to secure our mail services for the future. There is no programme of closures planned, as under the Labour Government, because we recognise the value of our Post Offices, particularly those in rural and remote areas.

Regarding the other thread, the one with Gonzo in,is it the lib dem's policy to slag everyone off?
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Hang on a minute Brucie, Post Offices are currently in public ownership, and they are dying.
The Gov state that POL will remain in public ownership, so how does this protect the Nation from losing more if not all of the Post Office Branches???? Duh!

I thought that RM subsidises the POL network.
So if RM is privatised what happens to POL? :hmmmm

No Baldrick but RM does provide one third of POL's income because we sell RM products for them, so how will this income stream be maintained because currently it is assured by an inter business agreement because we are all part of a group.

With the group gone, is it every man for himself? At least POL will remain in Gov hands, a debt ridden Gov mind you!!

£150 million a year from the government, used to be 190 million , but the Labour Government when in power reduced the amount of subsidy leading to the massive closure of post offices.
