ConDems' Mail fight

11/09/2010

Privatising the Royal Mail is the latest act of industrial vandalism by a ConDem coalition which puts no value on public service.

Well, if the Government wants a fight, it'll get a fight because the postmen and women are more popular than politicians driven by a failed right-wing free-market ideology.

We expected better of Business Secretary Vince Cable whose halo has slipped.

He'll struggle to sell the idea of privatising a profitable service, probably to a foreign owner, when taxpayers will pay the tab for its £8billion pension deficit.

Tory PM John Major tried and failed to privatise the Mail while the Labour Governments of Tony Blair and Gordon Brown flirted with flogging a stake before seeing sense.

David Cameron must realise he'll face a backlash, but presumably he wants to dispose of a much-loved service because with the ConDems, public sector equals bad.

Buckingham Palace is unlikely to be enthusiastic about an overseas company selling the stamps bearing Her Majesty's portrait.

Let battle commence.
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets
