I will probably vote no to striking, but certainly not for the reason in the poll.

The CWU and what they have done in the past is irrelevant. You should be voting for whether you want RM privatised or not, at least in theory.

Personally I'd hate to see it privatised, but I believe a strike would be a futile loss of earnings.
If the Government want it privatised, they will do it, strike or no strike. The only thing that can stop them is public pressure.

It's not about backing the CWU as such,it's about stopping privatisation by any means.
It does not matter what you think of the CWU,their agreements (which THE MEMBERS voted for),your rep,your branch,your division,Billy,Dave,NEC,PEC,the list seems endless.

This time if there was a strike, I would hope that the spineless line managers join us on the picket line as well, although i doubt it.

As for public support i don't believe there would be much, mainly because people are more worried about losing police officers and there own jobs etc in the forthcoming spending review, also given the fact that the Government would have to take on the pension as well. People will see it at least we have a job.

If the CWU really want to stop this there is only one way....split the coalition.
Can they do that?...do they have the balls to try?
Are they carrying the support of the membership?...do they have the balls to find out?
Do they have the financial resources to fight this battle?...without impacting on the support needed for Transformation blah blah.
What are the legal implications involved in striking over privatisation?

people need to realise this is a altogether different story from the last dispute.
personally i believe RM should remain in the public hands , run for the benefit of everyone ,thats the bigger picture .
another point to consider is, will our terms and conditions improve under private ownership.
a private company's main concern will be to make a good profit and when you realise our wages account for 70% of RM expenditure , its a no-brainer .....

I understand your point borders but the truth is this company has been private in all but name for 10years using exactly the same philosophy that you have outlined....that's why we have lost 60,000 jobs with another 24,000 to go.

If the union agree not to enter into any negotiations (secret or otherwise ) with the coalition without the express permission and full knowledge of the membership......they can have my full support for what it's worth.

their agreements(which THE MEMBERS voted for) stop there! (THE NON DELIVERY MEMBERS voted for). anyway every royal mail employee this time, if a ballot is called, need to stick together and fight for everyones jobs and pensions
