Warning over postal privatisation plan

SNP Postal Affairs spokesperson Mike Weir MP has described reports the Con/Dem government are considering giving postal workers shares in Royal Mail, through a John Lewis-style trust, under privatisation plans, as a "fig leaf".

Mr Weir said:

"This is just a fig leaf for the sell-off because the majority of shares would still be held by private investors whose sole focus would be private profit not public good.

"Royal Mail is not just another business, but a vital public service and any privatisation will undermine and put the universal service obligation at risk, whether or not a small percentage of shares are retained for the workforce.

"Previous privatisation schemes that encouraged small shareholders have not prevented companies being taken over.

"The future of our postal services must be as a vibrant public service, and the government should focus on investing in Royal Mail as a public service for the public good."

I like the fig leaf reference.

If those toffee-nosed idiots think that giving me a few shares is going to turn me into a rabid capitalist, they've another think coming.

Yes Night Tonic, we,ll take them as we did the colleague shares, and then in order to get a small portion of what they were supposed to be worth, our union will accept another pay cut. There not worth a pot to piss in.

Lets see; We got trickle down, but it evaporated; We got the property owning democracy ,then the market crashed with record repossessions ; then we got the share owning democracy ,but your endowments crashed and burned and your pensions are all wasting away; and all the while the bankers the brokers the traders and the fat cats got richer. Maybe we should try John Lewis Green shield stamps surely they wouldn't pull the same scam again :chuckle :chuckle :chuckle :chuckle :chuckle :chuckle

And get rid of 'em at the earliest opportunity.
If it was up to me, Britain's postal system would never be handed over to the thieves and charlatans of the private sector, and attempts at hoodwinking the average British mug by giving him a paltry few shares in order to convince him that he's now some sort of Richard Branson, would never, ever, arise.
