It would appear that the majority of the Queen's speech was leaked to the press over the weekend and many noticed that a bill for the part privatisation of Royal Mail was missing. While unofficially the government is refusing to confirm or deny plans to privatise the Royal Mail unofficial sources suggest that while the bill is missing from this year's Queen’s speech the government does plan to push ahead with a part privatisation by the summer of 2011.
While there is much speculation in Parliament regarding the Royal Mail, many believe this could be the first of a number of potential disagreements between the Liberal Democrats and the Conservative party. There would appear to be some dispute as to the potential percentage of the company which will be sold off although one thing appears to be certain, the post office network will not be part of the deal.
As we mentioned last week, there is also a multibillion pound pension fund deficit which the government will need to address before even considering a potential part sale of the business. This is likely to cost UK taxpayers although bringing in an independent third-party should offer significant benefits to the operational efficiency of the company in the medium to longer term.

Re: Royal Mail bill missing from Queen’s speech
not to mention asking the Queen to announce the sell off HER Royal Mail, the organisation that bears her title and her head on the stamps.
She would find that a bit galling.

MY LORDS AND MEMBERS OF THE HOUSE OF COMMONS
My Government’s legislative programme will be based upon the principles of freedom, fairness and responsibility.
The first priority is to reduce the deficit and restore economic growth.
Action will be taken to accelerate the reduction of the structural budget deficit. A new Office for Budget Responsibility will provide confidence in the management of the public finances.
The tax and benefits system will be made fairer and simpler. Changes to National Insurance will safeguard jobs and support the economy. People will be supported into work with sanctions for those who refuse available jobs and the timetable for increasing the State Pension Age will be reviewed.
Legislation will reform financial services regulation to learn from the financial crisis and to make fair and transparent payments to Equitable Life policy holders.
My Government will support investment in new high-speed broadband internet connections, enable the construction of a high-speed railway network and reform the economic regulation of airports to benefit passengers.
My Government will modernise the Royal Mail, in partnership with employees, and will ensure it benefits from private sector capital and disciplines.

means we can own up to 51%, till people decide to cash in, then it will be fully privatised.
