Lower wages?

Post by memo232 »

Does anyone think that if Rm is privatised the wages of the workers would be lowered from there current rate?

Not lowered, just not going up as much.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Course they would be lowered.
I saw that when I worked at London Transport.
They offered new contracts, which of course were rejected first of all, so they then offered £2000 to everyone and of course, people being people, they all fell for it.
It only took a couple of months on the new wages to lose that amount and it then took YEARS to get back to anything like decent wages.
Privatisation = low wages, longer hours, worse terms and conditions and even worse pension.
It would be a disaster!!

Post designed to get peoples back up so edited, :no no

Next obvious one like that gets a warning or a ban. Debate properly please and don't try to start a flame war.

Maybe I should have put a longer version.

What I meant was things Could..Most prob will get worse than it is now. But if privatised there will be no way of showing your dismay other than leaving the job.

RM staff think what they have now or percieve to happen in the future is bad. When I could be sooo much worse.

Whenever the company I used to work for changed its working practices. I would ask myself

"would i apply for the Job now. With the conditions they have now??" If the answer was yes I'd stay If the answer was No I would leave. Ask youselves that question..And be honest. I'm NOT trying to Belittle the reasons for striking. I agree with some of the grieviances. But from a business point of view I dont think your doing yourselves any long term favours.

Jobs and job descriptions change they have to, And any workforce has to change and adapt.

I only have a few posts and have got a couple of people's back up already. Some of my other posts might be a little scathing but they are in reaction to management bashing from people who think they can do the job better, but at the same time think that striking is the best option for the continuance of Royal Mail

That is in essence self defeating in the long run- Businesses to survive have to employ the best they can at the cheapest wage they can. If the wage and T&Cs are too low, the business suffers a high turn over which in turn increases costs especially any training budget or customer complaints. If the T&Cs are not too oppressive and the pay at a level to engender employee loyalty, this will cut down the turn over of staff and reduce costs. Its essentially a balancing act between having good employees yet hopefully lower costs.

We are not arguing against that :arrrghhh :arrrghhh . What we are arguing against is imposition of changes that do not work, and the fact that they signed up to an agreement where there would be local consultation and agreement, yet they have not kept their word. Would you really trust a person or a business that said one thing, but did the exact opposite, I hope not but that is what you are suggesting we do.

Yes the bosses are there to run a business and make decisions, but if they engaged their work force, stuck to deals and treated them with respect instead of contempt, then we would be a lot further down the road of modernisation and the strikes would not have happened. Its not just the decisions made by a business that matter, but how they carry them out, and how they treat their staff at the same time. I suppose it comes down to how far you believe the rights of a business can impede the rights of its work force, I am guessing your limit is a lot further down the line when you are not actually involved.
