A very perceptive piece from McGuire,but I would disagree with the statement 'THE Labour Party needs the trade unions as much as the trade unions need the Labour Party.',eh no we dont,not since you decided to abandon any pretence at being a vaguely left wing party,New Labour abandoned us,we didnt abandon it

He is gambling that the CWU will back off, that disaffiliation threats are the shouts of postal workers who are all talk and no walk. He's making the biggest miscalculation since the captain of the Titanic told the band to play on.

I think they do realise how hight he stakes are,but they seem trapped by this notion that if they are seen to fight a union,then people will flock back to them in droves,it aint gonna happen,the ground has shifted under their feet,in the last few months,people are sanguine about collectivist solutions,the economic debate is ripe for a emboldened left,and New Labour will be left far behind

A nasty Blairite sh**bag that Stephen Byers - he was instrumental in getting :lfo in with his Walmart " union avoidance " experience in , as the CWU were seen as an obstacle . P**ed myself laughing reading about his liaison with a star struck " Councillor Slapper " in The Sunday Mirror . " Councillor Slapper " threw Byers out of the flat as he turned all Viz Comic " Victorian Dad " - allegedly - her common law husband in turn chucked Councillor Slapper out .

He does have a point about Cameron being untrustworthy - the Tories are backed financially by certain people with quite outspoken / extremes views on Labour Relations and they will expect to be " looked after " .

There is a grain of truth with the unhealthy alliance of Trots & Tories in Unions . The PCS apparently has a " interesting " history . However ! they made the government back down on Pensions whilst with RM , Mandy & Brown who appear to be stuck in 1997 ( Things can only get better ) appear to be spoiling for a fight in the hope ! that it neutralizes the potential middle England Tory vote .
