well my friends
we are approching our "waterloo" as they say and still we have a very poor line of communication from the union...again!
why can we not go for work to rule?(after all they have cut all overtime with flexability etc) i feel most postmen and women at the moment are in limbo .we will get the "credit crunch" rammed down our throat and probably a (one of payment) i.e £400 pound carrot to accept a sh*te deal that will sell us more down the river.
we are stuck here wanting to take some form of action to support our point of view why not like i say work to rule and give the public a taste of what the service will be like with a private firm that dont want to pay overtime .
come on billy and co we need leadership and direction or you will find that it will not only be the political levy that is dropped (i.e union subs as well)
they are using the fear of no job against us ?
what do you think?

Hello
I feel annoyed at the lack of leadership & communication from HQ, but also feel more posties need to get active/interested.
Wouldn't 'Doing the job properly' by EVERYONE have the same effect as working to rule ?
There are still posties cutting up jobs & coming in early + breaking nearly every H&S rule going for the sake of half hour - This is the real problem THE IDIOTS AMONGST US!

The total lack of support is from the members not doing the job properly.

You can only do what you think is right in your own mind, you cannot tell others that they should 'Do the job properly' because that is classed as unofficial IA by RM (although you can always hint at it and get people to do it over a period of time or get a ballot for IA).

Re: ACTION .what do we do from here?!.
working normally and working properly is different. If collectively everyone decides within the office to no longer use cars not to come in before their time and take their breaks weigh their bags etc then Royal Mail will consult their solictors to see wether they believe this is unofficial action in which case they would write to the cwu to repudate the action. If the cwu refuse they will consider whether an injunction needs to be applied for. The key to this is if an office collectively all change the way they normally work.
Royal Mail in some cases have taken a particulaly hard line on offices who have collectively decided to do the job properly. This includes taking everyone off pay if they bring work back. In streathams case indivuduals were taken off all their days pay for bringing work back even thou they had worked their full days hours. The rationale Royal Mail used was that prior to the staff doing the job properly they had been clearing the office with similar traffic levels. This happened at watford and some other offices as well. Such intimdation makes it hard to sustain doing your job properly in the long term and in streatham case led to widespread unofficial action. With regards to the streathams cases they got their money back after 12 months when the chair of the idustrial tribunal recommended to Royal Mail to settle meaning no case law was implemented.

One man, brought an entire DO to a standstill, in a completely peaceful and dignified way.
Or better still: Have a sit in. As that would allow more of us to get directly involved.

Re: ACTION .what do we do from here?!.
working to rule would be difficult in the Mail Centres. would be very difficult to co -ordinate and to be frank not enough people are interested . RM have been very clever in slowly changing the make up of the workforce. no disrespect intended, but we have a lot of mature foreign students. having spoken to a lot of them , one of the conditions when granted a visa , is that they are not allowed to partake in any industrial action etc. we have a fair amount of part timers and as they are not the main bread winners they are often loathed to get involved in any aggro. regarding the Union , would the membership vote for IA over part privatisation ? 50% of the members dont even bother to vote over their own pay and conditions. the Union are trying to win the argument within the party so lots of things are happening behind closed doors. the members i think would be more inclined to vote for IA over our pensions but the Government have said they will deal with that if they get there own way---tricky, tricky !!!mr deeds wrote:well my friends

"why should it just be the bankers, politicians and the idle rich who get all the best things ? we demand a standard of living for our members that enables them to share in the fine wines and times that the likes of Cameron and his Eton buddies take for granted " - the late great Bob Crow RIP.
