Well well well. Labour are selling off a stake in Royal Mail with the obnoxious Business minister Peter Mandelson backing the deal.
Royal Mail bosses claim they need private cash to modernise their operations and remain competitive, the point is they wouldn’t need to be competitive had Labour not opened up the industry to competition from private corporations in January 2006.
Since this ridiculous move the company has made increasing losses year on year, and the bosses themselves claimed that the staff are overpaid. Now believe me Royal Mail staff are very very well paid for what is essentially an unskilled job.
Actually bugger that, they probably are overpaid, I’ve worked as a civil servant several times for the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and those guys pretty much run the country for pretty pathetic wages, for a £12k salary you’re doing a job that is worth at least £18k in the private sector.
In 2006, 3,000 post office closures were announced across Britain. People in nationalist circles were saying that the closures of the post offices were because the company was streamlining itself for privatisation, they weren’t wrong.
This is a sore issue for me since I lost my local post office which I used regularly for posting Ebay items. I now have to travel further to the large post office which ALWAYS has a queue running out of the door or the small post office in a local off-licence, that one is quite useless, they run out of jiffy bags, don’t do currency exchange and It’s situated in the local Chav hotspot.
In my experience, parcel wise, there is no one better than Royal Mail for reliability. I have used probably every courier available and had problems with most of them. If you bother to read the list of items private courier firms will not deliver it basically says they’ll take nothing, so don’t tell us what’s in the box.
Although the drivers always annoyingly seem to enquire, to which I always reply ‘A coffee table’ even when the parcel is 20cm wide. There really is no point going for the cheaper option, you may as well pay a few pounds more and have the better service of Royal Mail, something I KNOW will change if/when the company is fully privatised.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
