In a comment found in a article in The Telegraph Ros Altmann makes the following point.
"the Treasury is keen to blag Royal Mail's billions under the smokescreen of partial privatisation, leaving a hastily scribbled IOU for future taxpayers to pick up."
This is what this all appears to be about, grabbing our £22bn in assests now, knowing that the liablities will take many years to appear.

That is a far more plausible excuse for privatisation than the bullshit Mandelson and Co are coming out with.

Perhaps the 22 billion will contribute to the bribe Brown and Mandleson are about to try and give the electorate,to save their skin next year and hope that our children will pick up the bill later on.
