I noted that our pensions will be protected till Dec 08, after that Royal mail are responsible for a new scheme.
They also take 22 Bn in assests and assert that they take on 29bn in liabilities.
I would suggest, that even though they plan to sell off the asserts over a time period condusive with value for the tax payer, that they will reap the benefits of the assests long before the liablities.
I would also suggest that it is new accounting rules for pensions which make the liablities seem so bad and that perhaps these rules may make the scheme seem much worse then it is.
A cynic might suggest that the 22bn would go a long way to repairing the govenment's balance sheet.
I still cannot believe that a Labour goverment are doing this, stop the levy now!
