CWU Welcomes Report Revelations
26th February 2009
The Communication Workers Union today (Thursday) welcomes the report published by Compass 'Case Not Made', which presents a thorough critique of the Hooper Review and lays out a successful future in public ownership for the company.
Dave Ward, CWU deputy general secretary, said: "This thorough report blows Hooper's privatisation argument right out of the water.
"The government is basing its decisions on a flawed report which is in conflict with interests of the company, the public and Labour policy.
"The Hooper Report says that in comparison to competitors Royal Mail is inefficient when actually it's just less profitable. Hooper has confused efficiency with profitability and this glaring mistake undermines all consequent actions.
"All the indications are that the productivity of British postal workers is greater than that of those they are being compared with.
"Lord Mandelson's privatisation plans will not answer the issues in Royal Mail."
