Re: The Government is wrong on Royal Mail
What does a Royal Mail partnership mean for Post Office?
5.10 A partnership for Royal Mail will not impact its commercial relationship
with the Post Office. The Post Office will continue to offer Royal Mail’s
products and services throughout its network. However, it will provide a
new opportunity for Post Office to focus on its own challenges and create
a vibrant future for the network.
Entirely owned by Government
• In light of the essential social and economic services offered by the
Post Office, and because the network does not exist for commercial
reasons alone, it will continue to be entirely owned by Government.
We will repeal the existing power in the Postal Services Act 2000 for
the Secretary of State, subject to Parliamentary approval, to dispose
of shares in Post Office Ltd. Instead, the Bill will set out a new
requirement that Post Office Ltd must at all times be wholly owned by
the Government. This will not affect the Post Office’s commercial
freedom to enter into joint ventures and other collaborative
arrangements where appropriate to maintain and further develop its
range of products and services. But it will ensure that it is no longer
possible to sell shares in Post Office Ltd itself.
Why cant the barstewards do this for RM too, so they're willing to write into law that the PO can never be privatised effectively removing the Secretary of Stae's power to sell Post Office Counters, but dont value RM the same.

Re: The Government is wrong on Royal Mail
In my view, TNT (assuming it is they) will take over the running of mail centres and distribution once the 'rationalization' process has been completed. That's where the perceived profit opportunites exist and it seems to fit neatly with their current business. It's a bleak and uncertain future for anyone currently working in MCs methinks...

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: The Government is wrong on Royal Mail
I think it's a bleak and uncertain future for all us royal mail employees if "part privitisation" as they call it goes ahead, you have to ask yourself why the government are so keen in keeping post office limited a public company but not royal mail.. And they are not saying that royal mail would never be fully privatised just that legislation would need to be changed first to do so...I think if I've read it right this is just the first step on the ladder for full privatisation. Correct me if I've read it wrong.kingtubby wrote:In my view, TNT (assuming it is they) will take over the running of mail centres and distribution once the 'rationalization' process has been completed. Indeed it will be when (ROYAL DUTCH T.N.T MAIL) stamp out the royalmail as a service fullstop and can charge anything they like for their courier service!.ghostgirl wrote:I think it's a bleak and uncertain future for all us royal mail employees if "part privitisation" as they call it goes ahead, you have to ask yourself why the government are so keen in keeping post office limited a public company but not royal mail..
