SKY NEWS - ASKING FOR VIEWS

Post by TrueBlueTerrier »

AS PER TITLE: the address is news@sky.com

I have sent them 1 email

You asked for views on Royal Mail Part privatisation. Well as a postie I would like to point out that once we are privatised to any degree then the current level of service will deteriorate. Why, because a private company will want return (profit) on their investment.

Since Adam Crozier and Allan Leighton took over we now have:

Less and later deliveries. The 1st delivery is now later that the 2nd delivery used to be.
Less collections from post boxes.
Sunday Collections withdrawn.

When profit becomes the main reason for being in business rather than service I can predict

End of daily delivery to rural areas.
5 day or even 4 day deliveries instead of the current 6.
Later deliveries - Afternoon being the norm instead of mornings.
Larger delivery rounds for posties affecting level of service.
Larger and more sustained rises in stamp prices for the general public.

The main reason I am against part privatisation though is that the front runner is TNT, who are a major competitor in the postal sector and have "cherry picked" contracts from big business yet Royal Mail still have to deliver their letters at a loss. How can it be right that a competitor who has a contract with Royal Mail for delivery of post, may become a shareholder, surely there is a question of conflict of interests.

By the way TNT in their own home market, deliver letters at twice the price RM do, they do not have a Union to help protect their employees rights, their work force is mainly part time, and worst of all they only pay minimum wage. It all depends on your views but I don't think TNTs vision of a decent postal service matches mine or any other decent thinking person.

Not yet - Not even a mention of email views yet since they asked and I have been watching. Must not have passed the Editorial inquest and policies for this pro-business pro-murdoch news channel. :d'oh!

Glad to see my local MP (who visited our DO at Xmas) is fully behind keeping RM the way it is.
