Would you strike over part privatisation both before and after implementation if the CWU membership voted for it.

i voted no.After 24 years as a delivery postman I have had enough.I have a 100% strike rate .I went out in the late 80's for a couple of weeks just after my fifst mortgage.I was on strike in the mid. 80's on the day before I got married.Loads of others and everything just seemas to be brought in anyway.I would probably not go in but I would not vote for it .As far as I am concerned the ones in my office who are at the bottom with regards seniority can do one.They made up most of the strike breakers last time and would do again .they must think the rest of us complete mugs.

thanks but on reflection I would not go in and would probably vote to strike.I logged on after a union meeting at work when our rep. was going on about this.the trouble with him is that within a few weeks of the last strikes he was outside smoking with non-strikers.Not that bad you may think but they had come in on strike days to work doing overtime on their days off.

Yes. Absolutely 100%.
We now face the most important issue to affect us and our livelihoods in all the 24 years I've worked for RM. This could be our 'miners moment'.
It doesn't suprise me that the Government is trying this. They destroyed the Post Office Network, and are using our competitors. Have you heard of the carrier 'Government Mail'? It's all down to money and the National Debt.

I'd vote yes to strike action.....but due to financial worries ( my missus is unable to work due to ill health ), I'd have to secure a payment from the union before I was on the picket line - otherwise, I'd have to see what work I could get through a job agency & I do not want to think what I'd have to do if neither of those options worked out ( mind you, if I went back to McDonald's, I might hate it still, but I wouldn't hate myself ).

I do not belive for one moment the powers that be at westminster would take a blind bit of notice, in fact stike/industrial action would strengthen their resolve.

You need a Labour rebellion big enough to counteract the conservative MP's voting in favour of the bill. They will vote in favour despite their waffle of maybe if the package is right as the more thats done now the less they have to do when they win the next election.

Is it illegal to work elsewhere during a strike? If so I was not aware.....either way, the fact remains, I would not be able to financially support a strike by withdrawing my labour

No.

Law of the land allows people to have 2 jobs or as many as they want for however long they want. If your on strike on one you are still employed so AFAIK its ok to get a Temp job whilst on strike to tide you over. In my area quite a few miners did that during their strike.

Which is why we must use our brain more and use it smarter and faster, having to put members in the posistion where strike action would criple them finacially is not a good idea. Are HQ going to pay the mge arrears of the mbr who gets his house repossessed?

It is ilegal to strike over privitisation. However it is possible to get around this by balloting over Royal Mails plans for the industry.

Big Daz it could be that stike action could also weaken the government resolve as well as the back benches who have signed the early day motion will question why Royal Mail are introducing their modernisation plans without talking to the CWU.

Look the campaign is going well politically and the Government is a lame duck. MPs are going to now be thinking how best to safeguard their own seats so any pressure is worthwhile.

My concern is we are not doing enough to expose Royal Mail`s modernsiation plans as this will be equally damaging to jobs and terms and conditons.
