I haven't bothered contacting my MP as she is a Lib-Dem and their party policy is for
private investment in RM, but I see that one Lib-Dem MP, Mike Hancock has signed. :Applause

Add: Well I've just written to her on the off chance.

Had an answer from my local MP which went like this.
Thank you for your E-Mail,I to share your concerns on the future of Royal Mail but broadly welcomes the conclusions of the Hopper report, which he thinks confirms what many have suspected for some tome, urgent reform is required to prevent the losing a critical national institution,he does feel that the introduction of a new commercial partner is a step in the right direction,he states that Richard Hopper said in his report that this is necessary measure to bring experience and capital investment to the business, dont see how somebody else can tell us about what we built and made over 300 years the reason others have done the same is because they have copied our business plan and ideas nobody has the most famous name in the world but us!
Details of the proposal remain unclear, the government has not stated what private partners will be offered in exchange for their investment,he also has stated that the government have not clarified whether the new partners will have to invest in new sorting technology,or whether the opportunity to buy into Royal Mail will be put out to tender and that more importantly that ministers remain cagey about guaranteeing that all revenues from the sale will go to Royal Mail, not the government.
He also believes that the governments desire to be seen as the saviour of Royal Mail should not distract us from scrutinising the details of any deal that is put forward. He is also concerned that the prime minister plans to assume responsibility for Royal Mail's colossal pension deficit whilst at the same time stripping the funds assets to shore up the huge hole in public finances and leaving an even bigger deficit for future generations to fill as best they can.
My party has also made it clear that any future solution for RM must have full involvement of staff and stakeholders at all levels and grades throughout the company. It is especially important that given the crises resulting in the closure of thousands of Post Offices the blow of large scale sorting office closures is avoided at all possible and that similarly he welcomes Richard Hoppers recommendation that the USO be preserved,it is a critical part of our society and our economy.
He also informed me that he is unable to sign an Early Day Motions unless they have been approved by colleagues on the relevant shadow ministerial team, which this one has not been but i can assure you that i know how important Royal Mail is,he says that he and his colleagues will continue to scrutinise the Government's proposals fot its future and that they will do all in our power to prevent them raiding the pensions pot and yet again stealing our nations tomorrows for their today.
Hope this ok and is of intrest to you all.thanks the bandit650

Your MP seems to have wordered his letter virtually identical to that of Stewart Jackson Tory MP for Peterborough.

It seems that the Tory party are prepared for our letters and have a bog standard response all prepared and ready to go.

Unfortunatley my branch as eight Conservative MP's so I can pretty much guess waht their response will be to the letter i sent them all on behalf of my branch.

Received a letter from my MP (Tory) today regarding signing EDM 428:-

"Thank you for your letter regarding Royal Mail, which I have read carefully. I entirely share your concern about the future of Royal Mail and, in particular, our local post offices. I will make immediate representations on your behalf and will contact you again as soon as I receive a response. In the meantime, if you have any questions or think I can be of any further assistance in relation to this matter, please do not hesitate to contact me."

So, he has ignored the central question, will he sign the EDM, so I guess that's a no.

I have never received a reply from my MP to my email through http://www.theyworkforyou.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; so he has lost my vote. 3 times I have emailed him, 3 times no response.
