It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Dirty Harry I dont know where your getting your figures on job losses from but its no where near that figure. Leighton and Crozier spun the figures to suit their plans which was to first paint a crisis and then make out they had turned the business around.

Under SDD we did not lose any where near the jobs stated as whilst walks were lost the majoirity went to fund rest day covers for the introuduction of the 5 day week. In mail centres it was even worse as all they had to do was reduce their office run rate for three months to achieve the £26.28.

Yes job have been lost but nowhere near the figures quoted.

Now I salute you support in last years dispute. Unlike most on here who took just the two days strike of the national dispute , you took the full 20 days from the London dispute. However lets be clear what we were fighting for as I still have all the leaflets which we sent out and it was the following

1. To stop Royal Mail imposing change by executive action
2. To resolve the offices where they took executive action.
3. To stop Royal Mail imposing the Dutch model
4. To achieve an agreement on Royal Mail`s business strategy which safeguraded both full time and part time jobs and provided improved terms and conditions incuding a commitment on no complusory redundancies.

I think the union has sercured all of those. Of course the agreement has to be deployed in all offices but the safeguards are there and you cant have more involvement in the delivery revison. For years people have complained that a planner just sits in a darkened room and proposes things for an office without any involvement of the staff or cwu. Well that cant happen if your office keeps your manager to the agreement.

Now in terms of door to door it is not junk as most on here complained that they were goig to lose fortunes from it being put into workload. The fact is that door to door is going to asist in plugging the gap between the hours Royal Mail want to reduce from walk sequencing. I am sorry you find it an inconvience but the days when postman and women view extra work as an enemy cause they want to chase time has to go. Can you point to any other group of workers who view more work as bad ?

Now in terms of whether we are privatised in all but name ! I suggust you do some research on private versue public . It really is a no brainer you will be much more worse off if city stockbreakers were in charge of the deicisons.

I think that most on here are not complaining about the fact that there is more D2D to deal with, but the fact that at present RM are not allowing for them to be built into the workload at the moment. Certainly they don't expect, based on past record, RM to honour the part of the agreement that lets it be built into a revision, and despite assurances they certainly don't expect them to be automated.

However, the biggest complaint, which should not come as a surprise, is that anyone doing over 400 addresses with an average of 2 D2Ds are losing financially, and that the supplement does not seem to recognise the challenges, local knowledge or dedication needed to be even a "good" postie.

Bring me as many D2Ds as you want I say to RM, but be fair, make it manageable not leave it to the postie to manage, be honest about the chances of automation. Make the application of rules for D2D both operationally flexible, but fair, even handed and consistent across the business.

Dingo, I can readily think of at least one group of, errrr, for want of a better word, workers, who would just absolutely hate facing the workload a postie faces on a daily basis, you and your chums who help negotiate, then implement, the never-ending crappy deals that sees workloads increased even more for the poor bloody foot soldiers.
Another group who'd shyte themselves at the thought of facing the typical workload of a postie on a daily basis, would of course be the bunch of inept, greedy, senseless, bastards in the RM boardroom, sorry to diss your new-found friends like that, but I'm mighty angry, and by no means not the only one, either. ;liar

As for the amount of jobs lost, and the figures I quoted, I got them from union bumf distributed to us both during the last strike, and the strikes in 2007.
If the figures I quoted, from union bumf I still have, are wrong, how wrong are they? How many jobs have gone out the door at RM forever since 2003?
I know of one office that had 60 duties in Jan' 2003, and now in Aug' 2010, and with more cuts in the offing, has 36. That's almost 50% gone, and with more duties to go under this new fallacy of an agreement, and that is just one office in the district.
Perhaps, it's just all a figment of our imaginations? And the CWU is saving our jobs. And I'm a multi-billionaire having the worst feckin' nightmare ever.

Dirty Harry I have never said the job was not harder , but come it does not compare with being down a bloody mine. The rention figures have decreased not increased over the last 5 years in the job.

Now lets be honest and I always am if you want a union to argue that you can continue to make time out the job even thou your work is reducing due to increase mech then you are living in a parrall universe. No union can today argue for indivduals to be paid 40 hours but only work 30 hours including meal reliefs.

Yes some do work to time but I did disagreements in West London and I know whats going on in your area in terms of issues. I dont have any friends in higher places , and unlike you most people know who I am both in the union and Royal Mail when I post on this site unlike you who moan and hide behind a key board.

You see I and the union have to deal with reality and we can all argue that work is not falling , and that we do not need to change till we are blue in face but we never went on strike to be luddites we went out on stike to get an agreement so we can negotiate the change and thats what we got. It was accepted by the CWU members including the majority of the branch you belong to.

I did not support the way forward but had to deal with it and get the best out of it. I suggust you do so.

Be careful what you wish for in regards to privatisation it really is not what we need.

Dingo,
I don't have an issue with working all paid hours.
I do have an issue with ever increasing time outdoors. That is what crucifies posties, endless tramping the streets, some people walking six miles every day, every week. I'm no mathmetician, but I make that 36 miles a week, every week!!!!!

And still, it's not enough for the lazy barstewards who, if asked to do that for the rest of their working lives, would baulk at the thought.

Your reply to me, confirms the very worst of my fears, postal workers are well and truly fecked, and there is now very little point in belonging to a trade union that sings from the same hymn sheet as RM's incompetent, vastly overpaid, senior executives.

Sad, very sad.
