Michael Fallon urged posties to accept Royal Mail's pay offer of 8.6 per cent over three years, explaining: "It looks pretty reasonable compared to the 1 per cent a year cap for nurses, teachers and armed forces." But does Michael Fallon not have the sense to realise that nurses, teachers and the armed forces are all on far higher pay than us and so only need a lower pay increase ?

and 8.6 over 3 years is peanuts compared to 11% over 1.

Sent e mail to CWU (again) asking for barrister's report as mandated by Policy forum.
Don't the union have to obtain this report and publish it as per the mandate.

Even assuming that the comment about nurses etc isn't garbage (which it really is) aren't posties being offered getting on for 3 times the maximum that these much more affluent members of society could get?
Brain fury, what happens when the 3 years are up? Do you think they will offer another great 3 year deal, or will our wages be slashed by over 100 pounds a week. Everyone knows the pay rise is good but it's only for 3 years, how are people going to pay there mortgage with a 400 pound a month wage decrease in year 4. Providing they still got a job.

How do you know this is going to happen. If this is the case obviously the support for the union will go for through the roof and support for a strike will be very high.

What percentage increase would we need for our pay to equate with what nurses, teachers and the armed forces are on ?

What do you mean it's only for 3 years? How many times in the past have you had a deal for longer than 3 years? I can understand people rejecting the 3 year deal in the hope of getting more but I can't understand rejecting it on the basis of a "year 4" scenario that you've completely made up.

You really think that posties deserve the same pay as nurses and teachers? What is the average pay of a full time postman?

How many times have RM actually honoured a 3 year deal? I mean fully honoured all existing parts of it? They don't exactly have a very reassuring record.
