Saturday deliveries could be scrapped under ConDem plans

Would anybody give up their week off scheme for a Mon-Fri?....not in my office.

A move to a Mon-Fri service could result in the loss of 20 000 union memebers.
This could destroy the CWU as the loss of revenue could mean the CWU could no longer remain an independent trade union.
That is the aim of big business and Vince Cable.
And before any of you applaud the demise of the CWU, go and ask your dads and your grandads whether they would support big business and it's assault on worker's rights or whether they would defend the Trade Union movement.This fight is far bigger than "Billy sold us down the river......"

I'm not shy at having a go at HQ either but once the union goes mate you'll be back to working saturdays again....in Burger King.

Goodbye saturday, goodbye daily deliveries to any rural part of the U.K, hello zonal pricing, goodbye any attempt of a public service and the USO, we must fight this people, why are some people so confident of still having a job to enjoy the saturday off?

I would love to never have to work saturday ever again, would do me a huge favour! Sats are compulsory in my office as we dont have a "rest day". Ile be very surprised if it happens tho but jumping for joy if it does !

well you do realise if they scrap saturdays your walk will increase by 20%,can you handle that???

Here's the thing, clash......If the CWU hadn't been so quick to condemn posties to having their Saturdays made "normal" working days, maybe, just maybe, the majority of postal workers would fight to defend Saturday working.
I would guess that most of us didn't mind working on Saturday until 12 noon, 1pm latest.......But, I think I'm right in saying that there is no way, no way at all, that the majority of us will fight for the dubious pleasure of being out on delivery until 3.00pm on a Saturday.
This 2010 & beyond "deal of the century", will have consequences for the CWU, the issue of Saturday working being just one of those consequences.
We did warn Dingo all those months ago, didn't we? Leave our early finish on Saturday alone, or else.
This is what comes of ignoring the wishes of those who pay their wages.

I thought the CWU as a result of latest agreement was now on a more 'professional' footing with RM and their costs are now somehow 'covered' more by RM.

The issue is bigger than your Saturday finish time. (What time did you finish on Saturday?)
But given that you have already said elsewhere you will be a strikebreaker in any future IA I'm not that surprised you don't get it.
If you saw someone being attacked would your first reaction be - they stole my crayon at nursery school, I'm not helping them.

No not at the moment obviously - but that if privatisation is allowed without opposition, or without protection for the employees then at some point in the future postal work will be equated to "burger flipping" and the T&Cs will be similar or worse.

why dont the union put the saturday issue to the work force instead of always jumping in and saying they are against it i bet the majority of workers would prefer mon to fri mainly because the cwu managed to get us such a crap deal in the last agreement
