And what about those who loose their jobs?
Do you really think there's much prospect of getting another job, in the current climate?
And as for being better off. Well we might possibly be, financially. I don't know, but I doubt it. But what we would have, is severely reduced capacity to get the Mail out at even the standards we have now. Let alone, the level of service that we were once capable of. Remember: We were once the envy of the World, when it came to our Mail service.

You would be better off financially because the pot would roughly be the same but the workforce would be much reduced because so would the service provided but the prices and pricing structure would be unrecognisable. There would also be a rationale in the various units within RMG, some units won't survive the cull, transport I would strongly suspect would no longer be part of Royal Mail - that would go out to tender.
I don't see how the service could improve, as it'd be too expensive to re-introduce the amount of resources neccessary to get the Mail out at the times we used to achieve 10 years ago. I seriously doubt that they would even meet the targets we have now. It's cheaper to get the Mail out later, so they can save money on Shift Allowances. Plus, less resources, menas longer processing times, and longer walks. Both of which will delay the Mail even more than now.
Remember: When it comes to shareholders. It's profits first, everything else is of less importance.

Improve the service? They won't be improving the service Andy, far from it, no, no, they will be improving the profits - anything that can be hived off to an indepedent provider to the core business will be.
And that's precisely my main objection to it. Yes, we're a business now. But we're still supposed to provide a service. And it's about time that those in charge remembered that, and did something about it!!!!!

You see Andy those in charge remember that only too well BUT they have been brought in since Leighton to push the boundary from service to business and but for the USO and Postcomm would have transformed Royal Mail in his time. It is my belief that Labour got cold feet in the misguided belief that things would improve and of course they haven't. This government will go to the market and any obstacles will be removed and there ARE obstacles but it will be interesting to see how far they are prepared to go.
