Hmm.. I'm not comfortable being too specific because I don't want anyone to blindly jump into anything without looking into it properly for themselves. I'm no financial adviser. I can give a clue as to the main area I'm looking at though! Be warned though, this is VERY high risk stuff, so you could lose the lot!

There's a lot of interesting stuff happening with cryptocurrencies, blockchain technologies, and other decentralised peer-to-peer technology. It's cutting edge stuff which is making things possible which we couldn't do before. There was the wheel, the printing press, electricity, railways and the internet. I believe we're going to see a comparable paradigm shift in coming years, and the potential for the world to be greatly improved. The more you learn about it the deeper you'll want to go! You have to dig around and stick at it to get your head around it though. I'd start off by learning about bitcoin (possibly by watching Andreas Antonopoulos on YouTube). I'm not saying to invest in bitcoin, but this may be the best place to start in order to learn about this kind of stuff.

My main enthusiasm for these things is based on their potential to improve things for people, but there is scope to make money here also. There's a lot of volatility so some of these things can be day-traded successfully if you know how. It's also possible to buy and hold and to make 50x or 100x returns in some cases. There are a lot of pump-and-dumps, and sometimes things get a bit scammy, so watch out. On the other hand some of these things are the real deal.

I'm quite excited about the prospect of having a go at online poker again, too. I played a tiny bit several years ago; not seriously, but it was fun. Do I need to say for the benefit of others that this is also risky?!

Tempted to sell as I really don't know if I will be still working at royal mail by 2018. I can't see the shares rocketing up either due to the postal market being so competitive

When would our next chance be to sell by the way? Would we not get another chance before 2018? Cheers

Now that we're allowed to sell this first batch, we can sell them whenever we like. We don't have to choose between selling them immediately and waiting another two years.

Yes, minus tax and NI between 3 & 5 years. Tax free after 5 years.

All the info is in the 3 'guide to shares' booklets we've received!

I share your interest in bitcoin/the blockchain, cryptocurrencies - but :-

I reckon there are very, very few making anything medium term by daytrading cryptos - other than the exchanges and the whales.

Also possible to lose your shirt.

A bit of free financial advice - hold your RM shares (and your bitcoin) and keep away from the poker sites.

Oh - and if you haven't got the private keys you haven't got the BTC

I've heard a rumour of a big company making a take over bid for Royal Mail tomorrow ,dont know how true this is maybe why royal mail are advising not so good share prices at the start or no guarantee of share price until 24th. Was going to keep mine but if rumours are true wouldn't share prices shoot up tomorrow im in a dilema.

maybe its talking about how Equiniti were going to process any sale of the shares into one batch if demand to sell was very high, seems this wont be the case as most are keeping according the news reports. As demand to sell seems to be so low Id imagine anyone whos put in a sell request will have their shares processed tomorrow and into their pay slips as early as this week.

There are loads in our office gobbing off about how they are just waiting for their shares to cash. then they are off. Personally I cant see how circa £2,5k after tax is enough to walk from a job.
its not in itself, but it is the reason many who may have left in the past year will have hung around for a few more months to get a decent amount of free money.
Funnily enough i have heard a rumour like that in our office, truth or fantasy??

My uncle in London who works in the civil service,or is it a government ploy to get more tax and insurance off us,im leaning towards selling cos i got a hunch after xmas with brexit and 2018 talks looming the prices will crash.
