Parcels and letters have not been delivered to a Gomersal street for six weeks after a postman was chased by a dog.

Royal Mail wrote to residents of 1 to 35 Fusden Lane informing them that they would need to collect their items from a Cleckheaton town centre office.

One resident, who did not want to be named, said: “All the postmen have to do is get out of the van and push it through the door.

“Having to keep going down to collect it two or three times a week, it’s inconvenient.”

A Royal Mail spokeswoman said: “We can confirm that deliveries have been temporarily suspended after our postman was threatened by a dog, which was roaming free.

“The owner of the dog did agree to put in place safety measures, but a further risk assessment found that nothing had been implemented and the dog was still roaming and a risk.

“The local dog warden has also attended the property and is monitoring the situation.”

She said that if the referral to the Cleckheaton office is inconvenient, complaints should go directly to there and an alternative arrangement could be sought.

“We have written to them to advise of temporary mail collection arrangements.

“If these arrangements are creating difficulties for any of these customers we urge them to contact theoffice directly and we will endeavour to find some alternative arrangement until the situation is resolved.

“More than 3,000 postmen and women are attacked by dogs each year and we urge customers to take responsibility for keeping their pets under control.”

It's an inconvenience for the postie who keeps getting chased I know what it's like to be chased by a dog and it isn't nice at all, fearing you are going to be bitten, the only Person they should be angry with is the person who owns that bloody dog.

Too right, the neighbours should be hounding the dog owner to do something to secure the dog in.
