Emergency response after ‘postman runs himself over

An air ambulance was scrambled after a postman allegedly ran himself over with his own van.

The emergency services were called at around 10.05am after today’s (Tuesday) accident on White Horse Lane, in Burnham Green.

Onlooker Steve Boland, 53, said a policeman on the scene told him the postie had run himself over.

“All I know is I was talking to one of our postmen that I know, and the police have blocked the road off,” he said.

“He left his hand brake off, or it malfunctioned and he ran himself over.”

Herts police refused to disclose details at this early stage in its investigation.

A spokesman would confirm that a red Vauxhall Combo van was involved in the collision, and it was “the driver or occupant” of that vehicle that was hospitalised.

The East of England Ambulance Service could not confirm how the accident took place, but revealed the injured party was a postman.

A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service said: “We were alerted to a vehicle in collision with a male pedestrian outside the White Horse Pub on Whitehorse Lane at 10.06am.

“We sent the Herts Air Ambulance, an ambulance and a duty operations manager to the scene.

“The man believed in his 30s was taken by land ambulance to the Lister with a chest injury, his condition is non-life threatening.”

I doubt if this poor guy will get any sympathy. Straight down the conduct code I suspect.

This happen to a guy I know....... same van and same fault!!!
Ended up doing him down the conduct route and he was let go

I feel for this poor guy as once he is fully recovered then he will have another fight to keep his job

Don't we all work for a sharing caring company. Have an accident, right, how can we make it worse for you, I know, conduct code you, that will teach you. I drive a combo; getting out of the van, because there is no adjustment on the seat height, has given me sciatica. I am only medium build, but somebody who is heavier build than me must have even more problems.

Guaranteed to be sacked if thats what happened, we've have 2 go from our office in the same situation. We've had loads of OPG complain about handbrake letting go, but of course when vans tested nothing wrong. It's not good for him.

I've noticed that as well is your sciatica in your right/rear thigh per chance? The combos sit way too low. I much prefer driving an old Ford Transit Connect.

Delivering a packet I heard the handbrake click off with a loud clunk, luckily the van was on a level road. Reported it, but nothing was done as the mechanism seemed to be working fine when they looked at it.

RM now state that when leaving a vehicle it should be left in gear, regardless as to whether your on a hill or not. Another postie down the conduct code for hurting himself?

Its worse when you are the passenger and the driver parks next to a high kerb,you practically have to crawl out the fecking thing.
