Sheriff orders destruction of dog which bit Bute postie

A sheriff has ordered the destruction of an English bull terrier which bit a Bute postman on the leg outside a house in Port Bannatyne.

Eleven-year-old Bruce attacked the postman after escaping when his owner, Stanley Ferguson, opened a gate to accept mail for his workplace on June 5 this year.

Eighty-year-old Ferguson had previously admitted being in charge of a dog which was “dangerously out of control” outside his home, Gu Brath, in the village’s Castle Street - but the presiding sheriff at that hearing asked for a ‘proof in mitigation’ to decide whether the dog should be destroyed.

At that proof on Monday, Ferguson’s lawyer, Derek Robertson, argued that Bruce was not a danger to the public, and suggested that a dog control order be considered instead.

But Sheriff Ruth Anderson said she was satisfied, on the basis of the narrative provided by Mr Robertson and fiscal depute Lindy Scaife, that it was appropriate to make an order for the destruction of the dog.

A sad state of affairs but it's the owners fault,the silly old sod should be ashamed he had his chance and blew it,sadly there is no helping some people.
