A postal worker who slipped on an icy Royal Mail footpath and sustained multiple injuries on Christmas Eve 2009 has won £3,200 compensation.
Snow and Ice Slip
The postwoman was on her way home from Watford Mail Centre, Herts, in the early hours of 24 December when she slipped on ice which had not been cleared from the Royal Mail's pathway.
As well the painful start to her Christmas, the injuries to the postwoman's leg, arm and knee forced her to take time off work.
On her behalf we served a letter of claim on the Royal Mail Group, which promptly denied liability for the accident. Clearly more was needed in order to convince the company that it was responsible.
Luckily we were able to obtain an eye witness testimonial which proved that our client could have done nothing to prevent her fall.
Once we had submitted this vital evidence, Royal Mail conceded and admitted liability for breaching the Workplace (Health, Safety & Welfare) Regulations 1992, in that the traffic route was not kept free from obstructions and from any article or substance which may cause a person to slip, trip or fall.
It was also alleged that the company failed to clear ice from the pathway, to grit the thoroughfare and to put up warning signs.
As a result of the Royal Mail's admission, our client was compensated for her unexpectedly painful Christmas to the tune of £3,200.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
