A LARGE dog has been ‘arrested’ by police after biting a postman on the face.
The 53-year-old postal worker was attacked by the large Akita breed in Meadowburn, Bishopbriggs, at around 11am on Wednesday, November 14.
He is understood to have sustained minor injuries and was taken to Stobhill Hospital as a precaution before being discharged later that day.
The dog has been seized by police, while its owner, a 72-year-old man, has been charged with failing to keep his pet under control.

I wouldn't have even reported it.................not joking either, can't afford the warning on my file so unless I'm dead or totally incapacitated then it doesn't get reported.

...... and why would a warning go on your file ?DGP1 wrote:I wouldn't have even reported it.................not joking either, can't afford the warning on my file so unless I'm dead or totally incapacitated then it doesn't get reported.

How would you explain having to go to hospital in the middle of your duty?DGP1 wrote:I wouldn't have even reported it.................not joking either, can't afford the warning on my file so unless I'm dead or totally incapacitated then it doesn't get reported.
Or the big cut on your face?
And if someone else then got bit by the dog and it came to light that you had been bitten and hadn't reported it, you would be in more trouble than if you had just reported the original incident.
I think you should put your file online.

It's a conduct thing, every accident that's reported here gets blamed on the postie............even when it's obvious that they didn't do anything wrong.Pinky 1 wrote:...... and why would a warning go on your file ?DGP1 wrote:I wouldn't have even reported it.................not joking either, can't afford the warning on my file so unless I'm dead or totally incapacitated then it doesn't get reported.

And if someone else get bitten..............not my problem.
Now I know this is wrong, the reporting of accidents does reduce the amount of accidents because you can take steps to reduce the risk but with the current management insisting on everything being the fault of the postie then they have to accept the responsibility of making things worse instead of better.

Sorry mate, but you've got to report it.
If the guard dog bites you one morning and you don't report it, no one's any the wiser.
When you're off and a floater get's half a limb ripped off by this animal, how are you gonna feel ?

Re: Postman bitten on the face by pensioner’s dog
Unfortunately I think this sums up everything that is wrong with Royal Mail.
The joint aim is to reduce accidents to zero. It's a laudable aim and I support it wholeheartedly.
Somewhere down their chain of command it has morphed into - "we don't want any accidents reported so the figures look good" ( and the Japanese professor will give us an award)
So rather than actually look at the problems and educate everyone to reduce the number of accidents reported, they call them near-misses or incidents and ritually humiliate anyone who does report an accident to dissuade anyone else and to massage the figures.
In the short term they make themselves look good.
In the long term nothing has changed, or actually got worse.
But nowhere up their chain of command is anyone telling the Emperor (Professor) he hasn't got any clothes on.

As Clash points out, the system is flawed and it's manipulated by Royal Mail to make the paperwork look good. But that still don't make it right that you would willingly expose a colleague to this threat. I've seen myself the damage that these dogs can inflict and it aint pretty.

Re: Postman bitten on the face by pensioner’s dog
OK, I have created a massive list of every dog on my duty, every address and how the dogs are to me................and I still get blamed on anything that happens to me (as does everyone else), anyway, my issue isn't with reporting accidents, it's with RM punitive approach to dealing with those accidents. You're obviously not from NI where I've known someone to get a warning when they go bitten by a dog on the lead in the street because they didn't move far enough out of the way to prevent it.Pinky 1 wrote:Laughable eh ?DGP1 wrote:With my hands...........unless the dog has them off.Pinky 1 wrote:DGP1 wrote:Why would I report it if I'm going to get a warning?Pinky 1 wrote:Sorry mate, but you've got to report it.

Not to mention the postie who put his foot on a manhole cover only to have it collapse and was blamed because he shouldn't have stepped on said cover.

I'm sure if a Japanese Akita bit you on the face it would be more that a minor injury, sounds to me like it's been blown up out of all proportion.

The injury hasn't as you point out, but as to the attack being blown out of proportion depends on your experiences I suppose, myself, personally, an Akita jumping up to my face is frightening in itself.DB1100 wrote:I'm sure if a Japanese Akita bit you on the face it would be more that a minor injury, sounds to me like it's been blown up out of all proportion.
I think its dangerous ground to measure an attack based on the injuries sustained. An attack is an attack.
