Postie scarred by dog's vicious attack

AN ABERYSTWYTH postwoman has spoken of the terrifying moment a dog sunk its teeth into her, leaving her with a four-inch gash in her back.

The vicious attack occurred in Llandre while postie Helen Leigh was delivering a parcel to be signed for. It left her in hospital for nearly three hours, in need of a tetanus jab, and likely scarred for life.

“The dog always goes crazy when the postman turns up, but I could see it in the window so I thought it would be alright,” said Helen from Llanfarian, who has worked for Royal Mail for six years.

“But I had a gut feeling something was not quite right so I stepped back before the householder opened the door holding the dog by the scruff of the neck.

“It didn’t have a collar on and he must have lost his grip because it leapt up and attacked me. I didn’t know what to do, so I put my arms up but it sunk its teeth deep into my side, going right through my shirt leaving it covered in blood.”

The owner of the dog did get it under control before it could attack again, Helen said, and she went straight to Bronglais Hospital where luckily she did not need stitches. “I just worry that if it had been a child, it would have been at their head height,” added Helen.

Happens most day's twats open door hanging to the dog, or using their legs not to let their dogs out. I try to say to them to put dog away, in another room, they get arsi. The prob then gets worse when I hand over the PDA for a signature. I then remember the twats, and make sure they know I do not like this situation, moan and tell them I will report dangerous dog to RM. They should not have dogs if they have no brain. :mad I've had many attacks been put in hospital, so feel for her and hope she recovers well, and sue them as she has rights in Wales unlike us english. :wave

I hope she heals up quickly and gets support from RM and offer her some form of counseling if she needs it. Good luck and best wishes to her.

poor woman- this is why i always maintain us posties having a gun that shoots pellets, something that will would it to stop it in it tracks, the company and dog owners need to realise our health is more important than a dogs and we need to be able to do our jobs safely! i was bitten twice by same dog, they are such disgusting pieces of vermin!

prevention is better than cure! if a postman feels threatened he should be able to defend himself-period!
