Minimum requirements for RM in hot weather?

Post by Almighty1 »

Hiya all, as you all may all know we had a really hot sunny day today, making deliveries in this heat and humidity makes me feel quite unwell at times, but my caring sympathetic manager tells me it makes no difference how hot it is, we still have to deliver in the same way as another day.

Can anyone tell me if this is true and are there minimum requirements the RM has to reach in order to safeguard us from heat stroke, dehydration and exhaustion in this hot weather?

I was thinking along the lines of maybe water, sun cream and breaks out of the sun... and if so where could i find the guidance for this to show my colleagues and manger.

Cheers

I can remember back in around 2002 we had leaflets handed to us about avoiding the midday sun as best we could and also sun cream handed out ! Now as we don't get out until the midday sun it's obvious they couldn't care less !

I understand they don't careless about us, but i've had enough of this now they are taking the right P!ss, so if they have to do something in these hot conditions then I would like to know what it is!

Our dom said take bottles of water and drink with you, there's plenty of room for them in your van! , buy own suncream and apply it , especially the thinned hair guys, take it easy etc. this was official advice during a wtll but no they couldn't care less , sat at their desks snoozing. :arrrghhh

It is a concern of mine but I don't expect RM to do anything about it. I suffer from heat exhaustion quite easily. One thing I been doing is freezing water overnight and taking it out before I head off to work, you have ice cold water all day and that helps heaps! Feeling it tonight actually as I have done all week! I love the warm weather but a posties job is pretty difficult in such conditions!

i dont think your unreasonable if you decline absorption/ lapsing on the basis that its a hot day
and may take you a little longer to complete your duty. :hmmmm.
thus not giving you "spare" time.

FFS I still can't believe people are still worrying about this, slow down, drink plenty of water and wear your hat (I know you look an idiot but better than burning), if you're going to run over then tell your DOM......H&S is the current all encompassing thing at the moment so use it.
