A German shepherd called Vicki who terrorised postal workers in Chorley has been ordered to stay off the streets.

The dog, kept by owner Gourpeaji Singh, 33, of Montcliffe Road, will also be kept muzzled after four separate attacks on Royal Mail workers. It comes after a hearing on Friday when it was heard a postwoman was pushing her mail trolley along Brooke Street, in the direction of Eaves Lane in July last year when she passed Singh and his brother walking Vicki.

German shepherd dog attacked four postmen

A German shepherd called Vicki who terrorised postal workers in Chorley has been ordered to stay off the streets.

The dog, kept by owner Gourpeaji Singh, 33, of Montcliffe Road, will also be kept muzzled after four separate attacks on Royal Mail workers.

It comes after a hearing on Friday when it was heard a postwoman was pushing her mail trolley along Brooke Street, in the direction of Eaves Lane in July last year when she passed Singh and his brother walking Vicki.

The German Shepherd bit the postwoman on her upper thigh and the defendant and his brother pulled the dog back. The attack was witnessed by another person on the opposite side of the road.

Magistrates were told that following the attack, the postwoman returned to the Royal Mail depot and sanitised the bite, which had led to bruising but not bleeding.

She reported the incident to the police and photographed her injury.

It followed three incidents in 2009 when Royal Mail reported the dog to Chorley Council for being aggressive to postal workers and for being allowed to roam the streets.

The case was investigated by Chorley Council who visited the defendant’s house to identify the owner of the dog.

In a civil case brought by the authority at South Ribble Magistrates’ Court Singh was ordered to keep the German Shepherd on a lead in public and secure so it can’t roam free at home.

Jamie Carson, corporate director for people and places at Chorley Council, said: “This was a horrible attack on a postwoman simply walking along the street, trying to do her job.

“Chorley Council takes these sorts of attacks extremely seriously and, as we’ve shown in this case, we’ll have no hesitation in taking dog owners to court.

“All dog owners need to make sure their pets are kept under close control at all times.”

Singh was also ordered to pay £250 costs directly to Chorley Council.

Singh was also ordered to pay £250 costs directly to Chorley Council. (why)

Should have prosecuted the owner, it's the only way to stop these attacks by hitting the owners in the pocket,
NO bags on shoulders please except for Moya who keeps her big fat wage packet in hers
