Van Checks - Are they worth it

Post by TrueBlueTerrier »

Frankly I have no idea if this particular incident could have been avoided by a van check, or even if a Van Check had or had not been carried out. However, it does graphically demonstrate the consequences if a fault is not spotted or reported. I was told by my instructor that most defects or faults are usually spotted on daily or weekly checks and very few come out of the blue.

I doubt any check would have found the fault that caused the fire, the checks are to check road worthiness, they're not to find any and all faults deep within the engine bay that require a trained mechanic and an inspection pit.
