medical retirement

Hi I have been a postman for nearly 15 years and have been told today by my GP that I have arthritis in my feet.

This has been caused by wear and tear and was contriubuted heavily by the job.

I have been told that I should reduce the amount of walking or in another ten years I would be in extreme pain and could lead to possible operations.

Could anyone give me any advice of what best to do as management will just want my sick record to hit stage three and see the back of the problem.

you will get referred to atos, they will phone you up, then you may see them face to face, you possibly could get ill health retirement will pension, discuss it with your dom though, but your health is the most important thing.

I have spoken to my DOM and have been referred to atol.

Thanks for your advice, I have 4 young children and want to be able to do things with them and not be slogging the streets anymore to line Moya's pocket.

So you are right health is more important.

This is the very reason plus a couple of other related thing that i have just been made medicaly retired given my age 54 and my lenth of service 21 years i was happy to oblige them, i also was initialy advised to reduce my walk by atos but that fell on def ears i was told under no uncertained terms that wasent an option credit due they did try to find me an indoor job but only work in a delivery office so i know that was a paper exercise i dont drive so the travel and time involved wasent fesable so the only thing was to take medical retirement. From reading various blogs people seem to think theres some sort of weekly pension involed, unless they deside you absolutly can not do any other kind of work there is no weekly pension but a lump sum.
