Dangerous cycling: new law under consideration

Here's one that unfortunately crept under my radar and has been posted for your attention.

Cyclists who kill or seriously injure pedestrians could be facing a jail term instead of a fine if a new law is introduced. Between 2005 and 2009 ten pedestrians were killed by cyclists and 62 were seriously injured. However there is no law for causing death by dangerous cycling, and careless cyclists usually escape with a fine.

Car drivers convicted of death by dangerous driving face a 14 year jail term.

The Conservative MP Andrea Leadsom has introduced a private member’s bill to the Commons proposing a new offence of causing death by dangerous cycling.
