Hi could you tell me if it is RM policy to wear a hi viz vest when driving?? I am getting told by my manager on a daily basis to wear this but i refuse to do so, could i get conducte for this??

Dont understand people not wearing them. Its another easy way for managers to discipline people for such a petty offence. Just wear it i'd say.

if you find yourself walking on/accross the road alot, then its safer that you did and your supposed to wear it in the yard. but less people wear it than that i see do

Yes its Personal Protective Equipment and you are required to wear it for your own health and safety same as the cycle helmet and you are liable for conduct if you don't comply and the union though doesn't support the conducting doesn't support you not wearing of it

Drivers Manual is quite explicit - on page 10 it says

Wear your uniform, including fluorescent clothing and any other personal safety equipment provided, while on duty.
High-visibility jackets/coats, and PPE must be worn whenever working in an area where forklift trucks, moving vehicles and/or mechanical equipment are in use. They must also be used while on delivery/collection at the roadside. High-visibility clothing must be carried with you at all times while driving.

You don't need to wear it while you are actually driving but you should wear it when getting into and out of the van into the road and when in the yard.

wots your problem? you get it for free and its not as if its heavy so just wear it and save yourself some pointless hassle.

Think yourself LUCKY to have one mush. In our place all of the yellow, long-sleeved ones get nicked by guvnors and processing because they think it makes them look important Kin sad or whot!

Too hot without one, far too hot with one, especially in vans with no air conditioning and windows that aren't meant to be left open.
