ILL HEALTH RETIREMENT

Hi I have been offered ihr, can anyone tell me if i have to pay tax on this or is it tax free? also will i be able to claim any benefots as it is likely t be abit more than sixteen thousand or will i have to spend this first?
I av only been off 4 monthts n thought we poststaff was allowed 6 months full pay n 6 months half pay or av i got it wrong.Dont really want t o finish as i have 2 youngsters

Yes its tax free..also get any holiday pay owing to you..34 weeks pay off package..... plus 9 weeks notice pay...think you can claim disability with savings etc.. but other benefits tend to off set against savings...enjoy ! I was IHR last Nov best thing ever lol

I was given ill health after an examination by ATOS, now the DWP say i am fit to work after an examination by ......ATOS

Thanks for the replys. Atos Doctor has postponed the desicion for another month, but still looking like ihr. Don't understand how Atos doc says ihr and DWP declare fit for work,then what happens? how if you don't mind me asking how you've been financially since finishing. This is the main concern,will not miss RM for one minute especially the so called 'modern Barclays Bankers management'
with the bright ideas of modernisation,which really means explotation.

I was given ill health in February after being off for 7 months i had only been there 9 years but was happy with the offer and it was a lot more than i would of got with EVR. I have athritus and cartlidge problems in my right knee which stopped me "Carrying out the job i was employed to do" those are the words that the DWP are interested in and after a 15 minute interview and a 30 second examination by ATOS the dwp stopped my allowance and said i was capable of work. I have put in an appeal against this decision and as there are so many appeals going in this could take up to 3 months and as long as you supply them with certificates they pay you benefit.

What i want is capable of work changed to capable of work but adaptations and suitable hours must be in place to allow for the knee problem, as i pointed out in my apeeal letter to sign on for work you are declaring yourself fit and so i would be lying as i am not

It depends on your illness, whether you will be able to work again, arthritis in knee for example means that you could be able to do a desk job. These are the things you need to look at whilst making your decision.

so why can't Royal Mail give somebody a desk job then?
Or is that to simple and Why if Atos are getting rid of people on ill health are they not using the same system they use in these DWP `examinations`...it's because it suits there feckin paymasters thats why!

Desk job is out because if i sit for to long the knee will lock same if i stand to long, RM offered no other positions but i am not ill enough to get my pension early

dinnae get me wrong, I am only using arthritic knees as an example. I've had my IHR due to that and I'm hoping that I will get a desk job.


Royal Mail have no desk jobs, I believe they contact local offices to see if there's any administration jobs in the area, in my case they sent an email to every office in Scotland.

ATOS will tell u if it's IHR or IHR with immediate pension. The first one, they believe that you are able to work again, the latter they believe that you will be able to work again, just not as a postie.

I don't agree with it, just trying to explain it better for those who don't know the score

Thanks for that i didn't realise that they would say if it was with pension or not, that explains a lot just wonder if i can apply for it again at any stage otr wait until i reach the retirement age

I am being threatened by IHR by Royal Mail - I cannot see for the life of me how they can even propose this - as I have have had no sick time off work with my (knee) problem in the last 3.5 years. I think they just want to get rid of me despite still performing a very demanding job in Collection every day - the only thing I am unable to do is to walk for more than about 10 minutes without having to stop due to the pain. They say no "have no work for me" despite having being fully employed for well over 3 years - and if I was retired on the grounds of ill health - the work that I currently do will still have to be covered my somebody else (presumably younger and fitter)

I have repeatedly told my manager - that I'm am not ready to be retired and wish to remain in work until at least I reach sixty. After all the faithful service I've put in for the Company over the last 24 years I feel they are betraying me. Besides it was their job that has been partly reponsible for messing up my knee in the first place!

Ah yes tromboneman, but you can't do the job that you were employed to do. A postman. Therefore they are quite within their rights to IHR you unfortunately. It totally sux!!! I had plenty of work I could do, and over xmas was working between 60-70 hours a week, covering the locker on the lates, doing more hours than I was contracted for but they could still IHR me because I couldn't do the job I was employed to do. Got told on the Tuesday, then asked to cover late shift on Wednesday but there's no job for me

Don't get me wrong, I was struggling even doing the locker with the bending on my old knees so was glad of it coming, but alas that's the way it works.
