Manual Handling Training

Post by cookie »

I think that the following should be mandatory training for delivery:

Manual Handling
Health & Safety
Conflict resoultion
Customer Care

Personally I haven't received any of the above training apart from my first day some years ago when a HR person showed us how to pick up a pouch!! The office seems so focussed on getting the mail out that personal development doesn't matter.

You're right there. I'm shocked to hear that you've not recieved that training. We get all that for indoor work, so what's their excuse for not giving it to Delivery Posties too? :hmmmm

You should have H&S/Manual Handling refresher training at least every 3 years.

When you fill in your walk risk assessment WPQ1 form about dogs, hills, steps etc on your delivery there's a question about having received this training.
If you highlight not having had it, your DOM should be making sure you get the training.

In my delivery office, in S E region, not one person has had manual handling training in over 6 years, were just told when the revision comes in the will do it, the revision was due in sept 2010, "in wrap" every postperson is showing no manual handling, & no wheeled container training, managers don't care, just want the mail out.

Why hasn't your H&S Rep done anything about it?
