3 arthiritic toes, phone call from ATOS, what happens next

Have been diagnosed by doc with arthritis in both feet. Deliveries taking me 4 and a half hours plus (pre revision walks).
ATOS ringing me on a telephone consultation, have had previous consultations when I was affected in 1 toe and told them I would be able to continue with a walk but much more slowly. I feel with the revisions being made in our office a walk is going to be an easy 5 plus hours for me, as well as the pain becoming too much.
I am quite concerned that when I tell them a walk will no longer be a viable option for me that I will be out of a job. Will I be taken off of deliveries immediately? What is the usual process in these circumstances? Will I be offered alternative employment within RM? Any help/advice will be very welcome.

I am in a similar situation to you so think I can give you some advice.
Under the disability discrimination act they have to find you work your're still capable of doing. The most obvious choice would be to move you to indoors sorting. Or if that doesn't suit you, there would probably be the chance for a redundancy payout due to ill health.
Personally, I'll come off deliveries. They are only going to get worse and worse.

At the very least IF you want to stay on delivery realitybites your walk should be a adjusted to allow for your slower walking pace....
If everyone else has a 4.30 delivery under the revision...yours should not take any longer just because of your disability.
That would be discrimination.

Cheers Rich, FT, would prefer outside to inside but the problems further down the line might not be worth it. Though at the slower pace, and with correct footwear, the pain isn't as intense. Will explain the situation to ATOS rep and see what they say, if that is the prudent thing to do?

What the f**k can ATOS advise when all they do are telephone consultations? You need to tell ATOS you want a face to face meeting with someone and they should spend the day with you to see how you get on and what changes could be made to help you.

Going by others in my office I think the best I could expect is a consultation at their offices in Watford. This still wouldn't give an indication as to a workload that would be manageable for me in my contracted hours. They would have to take my word for it which would not really get me any further than a telephone consultation.
A more comprehensive and detailed assessment, after monitoring, would be great in any other world than planet RM I think

Over the phone all they can do is give you an opinion on what you tell them which just doesnt work imo. You need to be seen in person, surely ATOS have someone who could come and see you, then they can do a PROPER assessment after spending a day with you then you know where you stand. Take a good look through this

You've never heard so much shite in your life as when a numbnut manager is trying to justify not making a reasonable adjustment or trying to issue a stage warning when they shouldn't.

They should after the telephone assement refer you to a one to one appointment. They then should advice what you can do it could be that you are a percentage slower than others or may need to rest while out on delivery for a short time. Then Rm should adapt a job if posible to suit you. This should come under the dda . Reps get a lot of stick , but are always there when needed so talk to your rep if you are a member.

Not sure yet if this would fall under the D.D.A, but in the past couple of years, 3 people with 'bad feet; in our office have all got IHR. Do you want to keep working for R/M? They may offer you an indoor job, but you could be sent anywhere! As A fellow sufferer, I sympathise, but the correct combination of painkillers, and footwear can work wonders! And there is one rub on cream that I swear by!

The cream could be a godsend. Have been on Diclofenac and Naproxen but they didn't agree with me (also have type 2 diabetes which puts me more at risk when using Nsaids apparently) so am dosing up on good old Ibuprofen (not really doing a lot for me but would probably be worse if I stopped). Had telephone consultation which resulted in them recommending re-deployment, and 50% of a walk during the interim until this happens.

Are you not able to take co-codomol? They really do help. Also, I found out by default that valarian drops, works wonders as a 'painkiller'! although I initialy started taking it for other reasons, I found out they really help pain as well, you have to take them for a couple of nights before you see the difference, but my, it works. iIhave arthritis all over, and over the years have had ops on my spine and hands, and it really helps! (The Valarian drops that is!) As you are diabetic, you may not be able to use the creams (My mum was told this, )

Had a meeting with my manager and there don't seem to be any indoor positions available in the immediate area. To be honest, I am completing a full walk at the moment, mostly on time, sometimes going over, depending on which walk they put me on (being a reserve doesn't really help matters) I think the real problem will be when the revisions come in and I have to finish the extra.
He mentioned redundancy if nothing suitable comes along.

Yeah mine said the same,even though my rep at the time said that there was a job going doing the PO box but the arsewipe DOM said it was going to make `office savings`...so I had to go back onto my walk which very nearly finished me off,oh and then 2 months after he said that the duty was going they went and put on one of the other managers girlfriend on the PO box as she has IBS...because we all know IBS is worse than a brain tumour.
