heavy bags on collection

does anyone no if their is a standard letter, which can be sent out to our customers, informing them of the maximum weights which we are allowed to carry because once again we seem to be getting one heavy bag when it could so easily be split into two bags.

Our collection drivers were told that if the bag is too heavy, they should request the customer splits the bag or they refuse to take it,

One bloke had 6 very overweight bags full of magazines at one collection point, a miserable bunch of sods (stuck up), when he informed them that the bags were overweight and didn't get any response he then said he wasn't allowed to take them and turned to leave it was then that the penny dropped, but yet they still expected him to break them down himself, he then said that they had 2 mins to do it themselves or he was gone as he had other points to go to,
They soon get the message,

Similar here, local Council overloading up to 17 kg or more! Took some camera phone shots of mail bag on scales as evidence.
Put note into Managers office, but don't think it's made a difference. We'll see...

One driver knacked his shoulder, and RM threw in about 30 questions as to why he lifted it.
( Without X Ray vision, who knows what weight it may be?)

Everyone's wise AFTER the event, but why do we have to get injured FIRST???!!!

If it's overweight you don't have to take it. If you do take it and hurt yourself then your partly responsible for the injury. Stick to the proper regulations regarding weights and you won't go wrong. Always ask to see the risk assessment and safe system of work for every task.

You can't beat standing over some council bod watching him split the bags...it's all good.
