Pregnant Postie

Post by pizz_flap »

Asking this for a colleague as she is not a member (yet)

What are her rights regarding rounds as she is struggling. 3 months preggers.

What are the bag weights (she on bike and in van) as I understand they are less in this condition.

She has had to go home a couple of time as not well and is worried so how does she stand re stage warnings.

Any other info gratefully received ASAP please

Thank you

:sad: Poor Lass, we had one girl who had morning sickness all morning so going out on rounds was impossible, she was
allowed indoor duties, but cannot help you regarding warnings in this area, but R'M would be on sticky gorunds if warnings led to dismissal--many companies have been taken to tribunal over this in the past.
hopefully ,the Mangers will see sense, and with all the prepping up need in the mornings she should get put on to this.

A guide for new and expectant mothers who work

http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/indg373.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Highlights

Am I entitled to more frequent rest breaks?
Yes. You will need to agree timing and frequency of rest breaks with your employer
as part of your specific risk assessment process. As a new or expectant mother
you are likely to need to go to the toilet more often, as it is important to drink plenty
of fluids both while you are pregnant and when you are breastfeeding

What are my maternity rights?
Your maternity rights fall into four categories:
■■ time off work for antenatal care with pay;
■■ maternity leave;
■■ maternity pay; and
■■ protection against unfair treatment or dismissal.
There are two maternity benefits available to you:
■■ Statutory Maternity Pay, paid by employers; and
■■ Maternity Allowance, paid by the Department for Work and Pensions.

We've had a couple of pregnant lassies over the last year or 2 and they most certainly have not been sent out on deliveries, in fact when they were on the front desk it had to be coverd by someone else at the same time. I'm not 100% on weather it's a rule or not ( think it is) but what happens if she falls carrying a heavy bag???

You should probaly ask your lineo that. Better still phone HR on 0845 60 60 60 3

Pretty sure they are not allowed to count absencies towards stage warnings with pregnant women, but if you friend is abscent alot they can tell her to start her maternity leave early, thats what i was told by my friend (and RM colleage) when she was pregnant.

will try to clarify for you tommoro.

There needs to be a Risk Assessment done, I'm sure brothermagrew will give more details about this.

DGP1 Non requirement as the link and guide that Teebs kindly posted is quite sufficient.

Yes a Risk Assessment Must be carried out for Pregnant Women under the.
Management Of Health & Safety Regulations 1999

There is a Royal Mail Risk Assessment document especially for Pregnant Women.
It can be downloaded from the CSR Helpline.(Or Royal Mail Safety Adviser)

Involve your Health & Safety Rep

Hope This Helps :wave

Hiya, im currently 23wks pregnant and in the end I had to go to the doctors and get a note for light duties as my office didnt understand why I was struggling so much!! I was informed that I tell the boss what I can and cant do, although they dont pay much attention to me - You do not get stage warnings for being off sick as long as its pregnancy related and I cant help on bag weights because I was just left to get on with it and now im working from a trolley as it was getting to much to ride around on a bike xx She should have a risk assessment as soon as they know shes preggars, 1 at 14wks and 1 at 32wks I do believe, not that this has happened with me!!! Hope this helps a bit xx

When I had my induction training 6 weeks ago, the HR woman said "we never allow pregnant women out on delivery duties, as soon as they tell us they are pregnant they are put on Office duties" or words to that effect

I'd suggest phoning personnel and asking their policy on pregnancy
